Way back in the mid 80’s I remember picking up a book from an author named Piers Anthony.
The name meant nothing to me at the time, I was far from an avid reader, but I needed something to read for a book review in English class. So, to the library I went and I borrowed this book that looked interesting enough; Battle Circle by Piers Anthony. The book’s cover had a guy with a robotic left-hand and a sword replacing his right hand - that was freakin’ cool as a kid, hell it’s still damn cool today.
I remember thinking that it looked intriguing; the people fighting looked liked savages, but they obviously had access to some technology to have appendages swapped out for swords and the likes - I figured that was cool enough for me and picked it up.
When my father saw my selection he approved, He told me that this Anthony fella was kinda well known and popular. I didn’t care, I just wanted to read something half-interesting to get the grade. So I read it, and I can remember thinking it would take me for freakin’ ever to read through. I was surprised to find myself reading this book whenever I had some free time, and I finished it in under a week.
Now, a week might seem rather long for some of you, but for myself that was Han Solo’s Kessel Run fast. To be honest, I remember only little flits of detail now, but I do remember really enjoying the book. I attempted to peddle the book onto friends that actually did read books, and I remember growing frustrated that nobody else I knew had read the book and there was nobody to talk with about the book. It had been both a rewarding and very frustrating experience for me.

Seems that my interim video card solution is holding. I left the computer on all day and nothing caught fire and the computer was not frozen. It feels good to have narrowed it down to the video, having a temporary fix affords me some planning time before I get another rig.
So, with my computer woes, and me actually only getting back online yesterday, I’ve had a compressed week of fun - but I did find a couple really cool things. Here’s this week’s collection of cool, as found on my tumblog:
- Anyone Can Happen: Dollhouse Season 2 Poster
- 8-bit trip
- Make your own…

Yeap, the move is over and I’m finally back in front of a monitor after a short hiatus. To get the boring details out of the way:
- only 1 moving casualty counted for so far, 2 legs on my bed-side got whacked - but I can fix it once I find my trusty drill.
- the movers were good, and pretty quick overall - it was a hot muggy day, so sadly it cost me because they needed to take breaks from the heat now and then. Why could my moving day not be cool and breezy? Might have saved me a hundred bones or more!
- got 3 rooms painted so far, and 1 of those rooms needs to get a chair rail; I can’t wait to break out my compound radial-arm mitre saw - I love that thing!
- speaking of painting, my son’s room was one of the painted ones and it’s all decaled out with a Cars™ theme - I have to say that his room looks fantastic!
- contemplating putting up some crown molding - more mitre saw action, yeah!
- we’re nowhere near unpacked - I figure somewhere around mid-November I might figure out which box has all of my freakin’ socks in it!
- we’ve found no big surprises with repairs or some-such for the house, yet… some oddities we’d not noticed before, but totally liveable things… such as:
- the baseboards and trim throughout the house is not white, it’s a cream colour.
- the curtain rod in the living room is about to fall out of the wall - I need to repair that.
- the dryer squeals a little when drying; hopefully it is still under warranty… I have to check the paperwork.
- one of the windows comes off its track when you open it, so you have to go outside to close it.
So, yeah - the move was really good. Sadly, I do have some bad news, though. I am encountering more computer issues now that I’m settled in; my machine is blue-screening on me rather routinely now, like every 10 minutes or so!
Yeah… that is really upsetting me.

Before I get into my self-promotion, I’ll give you a quick link so there’s some actual content. You know how I’m always searching for meta games or whatever they are? That’s how I came across Turn Based Battle! It’s more of a parody than meta but that doesn’t stop it from being awesome. I thought it was absolutely hilarious. It moves a little slow at times, but the whole thing is very well done for a parody. And the concept is just great. So have your own Turn Based Battle! P.S. The song at the end is pretty good so don’t close the window right away.
Alright the rest of this post will probably be interesting to no one in the world but I need to brag about my accomplishment. Here it is:

Sometimes I pass by the Nintendo World Store near Rockefeller Center. It’s a pretty cool place and once in a while I go in to play with a Wii or look at DS games for a while. They have a bunch of other cool stuff like displays of Nintendo history, t-shirts you can only buy there, and so on.
But most of the time I just pass by. Even when I do, I always check out the window display because it’s usually pretty cool. They change it pretty much every month so I figured I could post some pics whenever they do. The current display has been up for a while so they should change it pretty soon. What is it? Well, this month, they’re pimping Wii Sports Resort:

Now that the whole Blu-ray fiasco appears to be over, I seem to be able to watch my Dollhouse: Season One
discs just fine. Last week I managed to finally sit down with some popcorn and give Epitaph One a good watch.
I do not usually give out any spoilers but I want to state up front that I do touch on some of the subject matter in this post; I wanted to warn you well before I get into it in order to give you a chance to not-read if you were like me and avoiding spoilers before you watched the episode yourself.
So, Epitaph One… where to begin?
Seems so long ago that I watched Dollhouse, even though it was only a couple months ago. But this episode stands on its own quite well, really.
First off, the setting is quite different from what we’re used to in Dollhouse. The first 12 episodes of season 1 all took place in present day L.A., but Epitaph One fast forwards to the realities on life in 2019; L.A. is quite a different place 10 years from now.

Well, guess what? Karn’s off hunting wolves in the Canadian wilds again. I hear that even though it’s summer, it’s still freezing up there at the north pole. So basically he’s just slacking off in the wilderness and I hope he gets eaten by a bear for it. But I did send out my Aggro Ninja Death Squad to track him down and beat some links out of him. I know he usually gives some sort of commentary (I don’t read it), but I’m basically just going to post his links.
What a surprise, Karn has a Star Wars link for us today. But actually I really like this one. Check out this awesome painting. Yep, it’s Leia Organa on Hoth. She’s no Jar-Jar but she’s not bad herself. Leia in a slave outfit is played out. Leia on Hoth is in. Star Wars paintings can be really cheesy but this one is gorgeous, and not just because Leia is in it.
Hmm…let’s see what this link is about. Oh, we’re doubling down on Star Wars today. Shocker. This is pretty hilarious I have to admit. It’s Star Wars: Longest Crash Ever! Nice job on the video - I was really laughing. Imagine that dude was the one who destroyed the Death Star and the movie ended? Well, he should have left his targeting computer on and stopped screwing around.
I always loved that whole Death Star attack. It’s been said before but how funny is it that the fat guy was named Porkins? I love it. They should have made a whole movie about him. Porkins chokes on a ham sandwich but is rescued by a Jedi who uses the force to pull the sandwich out. Porkins then eats it and becomes a Jedi. He defeats a Sith by falling down a flight of stairs in comedic fashion. What was I talking about?
