Tumbling Down The Rabbit Hole

by Karnatos on July 31, 2009

Even this finger is angry. Soooo angry! Heheheheheh...I am upset. Really upset. I am on the brink of a fit of rage upset. Ever get so upset, all you can think of is the fact that you trusted someone to do something for you, even exchanged cash to persuade said “thing“, and then they fail to pull through, simply passing by the line that they are sorry and they’ll get to it… promise.

Pffft, yeah. You better! I cannot believe that my trust was totally and completely shattered like that.

Worst part is, I may have even persuaded others to also get involved, and now my reputation is likely on the line - never to be trusted again. That really irks me; I could have handled it if it was just me that was caught up in this, but now others may also be caught in the whole mess.

See, this is how things went down:

July 20th, around 10am EST I published a story here on AGR about a un-bah-lee-vah-bull deal on Amazon.ca for Season 1 of Dollhouse on Blu-Ray. I mean, the dang thing was something like 400,000% off the regular price! They even promised to ship the merchandise in crumpled $100 bills rather than the usual pink popcorny bits, they just really wanted to serve their loving customers and get Dollhouse in their hands for the cheapest possible price in this known universe.

And good on’em - I thought the price had to be a mistake, but several people I know jumped in on the deal. Some, like myself, went so far as to cancel the pre-orders we’d made on Amazon.com because the Canadian deal was so much better! What did I do? Dear god, what did I do!?

Look, I’m so mad I’m not even going to mention this week’s links until after the jump - That’s. Just. How. Mad. I. Am!

The Legend of Neil: Season 2

by Karnatos on July 30, 2009

it's dangerous to go alone... and hung overLast summer I was watching a few new shows online, there was that little thing called Dr. Horrible, and there was The Legend of Neil.

Well, I loved both of these online series - they were both funny, one was about super heroes, the other about video games, they were both available online for easy consumption, and they even shared a connection - and it was a direct connection at that.

It was by no mistake that I stumbled across The Legend of Neil - I wrote about coming across it in early August, and although it was only the second episode at that point I was already sold. The Legend of Neil is brilliant fun; it’s a lot of silliness, pretty funny, and it’s a spoof of Zelda… so much win in one show, how could I not love it.

And as if that was not enough bundled into one series, one of the show’s creators is none other than Sandeep Parikh.

Wait wait… what? You don’t know who Sandeep is?

7 Games, 7 Sentences

by Aggro Me on July 29, 2009

One two three four five, six seven eight nine ten, eleven twelveHello everyone… this is Karnatos.

Yeah, I know. If you look above only a few pixels you’ll see that the by-line states this post is by Aggro Me; and it is, only… I am typing it up for him.

You see, Aggro Me is at a seminar, and he’s been going a little nutso, sitting around listening to people drone on.  And he’s all but burnt-out playing games on his iPhone as he kills time.

So what does a man like Aggro do at a time like that? He sends me an email with 7 very short reviews of the iPhone games he’s been playing.

Here’s what he had to say, in his words:

I flicked through my iPhone’s screens to find some games I knew I was never going to write a whole review of, and I decided to sum them up with a sentence:

Underworlds - It’s a decent Diablo dupe but I didn’t dig the controls and it’s pretty darn short.

Let’s Golf - It’s hard to believe someone was smart enough to eschew stupid accelerometer gimmicks and create such a near-perfect, feature packed, gorgeous golf game for the iPhone.

Crystal (Pepsi) Defenders: Vanguard Storm - Square came up with a smart twist on tower defense and then forgot to add a few little things, like a story, achievements, items, skill trees, carrots of any kind, or any reason at all to keep playing.

Flight Control - I guess it’s fun for a bit but I rarely play it anymore, so I’m not sure why everyone else in the universe seems to be so bonkers about it.

KarmaStar – This quirky title, with weirdly high production values, plays like a fun, quick board/card game and makes for a nice casual strategy fix, even if the AI is still too easy on the highest level.

Mechowars – The latest update was a super huge win, but even before that I already preferred this to UniWar because of twists like the sun cycle affecting the environment and the surprisingly original story and graphics.

Science Wars (Free Version) - It’s a fine clone, but Drug Wars seemed like so much more fun when I was nostalgically reminiscing about it than when I was actually playing it.

Saturday Night is Date Night

by DrMaustus on July 28, 2009

logoLast Saturday night, I had a date. At 12:30 AM, I was scheduled to meet with Zack Snyder for a community screening of his live-action movie Watchmen on Blu-ray. Sure, there were another couple of thousand people there (Zack and I have agreed that we’re not necessarily exclusive), but it still felt intimate.

Happy Birthday: Always Go Right

by Karnatos on July 27, 2009

Bah-bah-bah-bah-bah-bah-bahhhhhh!One year ago today we officially launched Always Go Right. We were not exactly sure as to how the site would grow and what exactly it’d become, but we had a handful of simple mission statements - to have fun, write about what interests us, and have the site revolve around the geekier side of our lives.

Being geeky people, it has not been too difficult. Our goal was to try and get back in touch with the geeky things we used to do; as grown-ups, our lives are just so busy that finding the time to get back into our geeky hobbies is really tough. For the most part, I’ve had some level of success, but I have to admit that I’ve got a ways to go before I am partaking in the geeky things I used to do in my youth.

We wanted Always Go Right to be a place where we talk about the new things we get introduced to, the geeky things that we like, and the crazy world of geekdom online. We’re not just talking about the pocket-protector geeky stuff either, but it’s in there too - everything from movies, to games, comics, podcasts, art, webseries, toys, television, and role playing games, we’ve managed to cover a lot of territory in one single year.

We kicked things off last year with a Salute to Gary Gygax. His birthday happens to be July 27th, so it was perfect when we realized that his birthday coincided with the week we wanted to go live here at AGR. Ever since we opened the doors things have been blasting along fantastically.

So, one year’s gone by, and we’re gearing of for year 2. I am setting a few goals for myself, and for the site, over the next year; it will be interesting to see what happens!

In closing, I want to thank all that drop by daily and read the site. We know you are out there, and we hope that in the coming year the community of us geeky folk builds up and we share our experiences - just because we’re busy with our daily lives doesn’t mean we can’t find the time to have some fun!

Tumbling Down The Rabbit Hole

by Karnatos on July 24, 2009

Even the system is busy? Sheeesh! This week has been a tough week.

Work? Busy.

At home? Busy.

The cottage? Well, despite going there for relaxation, there’s always things that need doing there too… and therefore, busy.

Yeah, it’s summer time and life’s busy. It always seems to end up this way. When summer approaches you always tell yourself that this summer things will be different. You will try and relax more, get to bed earlier and enjoy the weekends by not over-scheduling yourself.

And then once summer is in full swing you wonder just what the hell went wrong.

But despite the real-life maelstrom all around me, life’s good. Work might be busy, but it’s good to have a job and it’s good that there’s plenty to get done. We’re packing to move next month, and that’s great too, because… well, you know… new house! And cottage? Being busy at the cottage hardly feels like work. It’s hard work sometimes, but it’s different work - if I don’t get to it, it’s all “whatever” anyways.

So the summer rolls along, I keep busy, and I browse the web to pass the time. It’s how I relax in the evenings. And if you’re busy like me, I hope you find the time to just kick back and enjoy in kind. Here’s some of the fun stuff I came across this week:

  • Video Games
  • Resident Evil Comic-Con T-Shirt
  • Force Trainer Duel: Jedi Master vs. Star Wars Virgin
  • Doctor Who TARDIS 4-Port USB Hub
  • Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland - Teaser Trailer

Introducing DrMaustus

by Karnatos on July 23, 2009

I just wanted to do a quick introduction of our newest writer here at Always Go Right, DrMaustus.

His first post on AGR was earlier today, and it focuses on one of his major hobby interests, Hi-Definition video. This week he had a look at the excellent Watchmen motion comic, and graded the quality of the Blu-Ray release of this product.

He is a home theater junkie who loves all things high definition,
and he already has a lineup of Blu-Ray titles that he intends to examine and share with us all - I am looking forward to reading his articles and hope that you all are as well. He also plans on writing some articles on the often confusing side of HD and home theater, which I hope many of you will find informative.

Who is DrMaustus? He is a friend of mine, and he is directly responsible for me getting addicted to Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and the remainder of the Buffyverse. There are several posts here on AGR that are attributable to his influence over me over the past year that I’ve got to know him.
