Today is my son’s 4th birthday. The little rascal is really growing up on me. It’s times like these that both sadden me and make me proud.
Why sad? If you are a parent, you certainly know what I mean. He is really growing up fast, and it’s hard to believe that he is starting Jr. kindergarten the first Monday of July. Well, it’s actually before and after school care, but it is open all summer long so the parents can work. In the fall he will begin actual kindergarten, but as far as he is concerned it starts this July.
He’s really looking forward to it too. He knows a couple older children that will be in the same class as him, and they are always telling him stories about big-boy-school.
So today’s a pretty special day for me and my family. We’ll be celebrating his birthday all weekend long - we like to spread the fun over a few days. Let’s hope the weather complies!
And with planning a weekend of fun comes a week filled with to-do lists that need doing, which left me little time to spend online. I did come across some great links though, here’s some of the fun I discovered this week:
- Crawling Zombie Torso Gelatin Mold
- Mario and Luigi
- Dungeons and Dragons Commercial
- Homemade Batmobile Tumbler Go-Kart
Crawling Zombie Torso Gelatin Mold
A couple years ago I went shopping around looking for something exactly like this! We were going to be having some people over for Halloween and I wanted to do something a little different… something with zombies and JELL-O. I never did find a zombie mold, so I ended up just making one myself.
Sadly, what I ended coming up with looked more like the Trash Heap from Fraggle Rock than a zombie… but people did not seem to care; it looked disgusting, even though nobody had a clue what it actually was.
Now if I had found this mold I could have really pulled off a sweet looking product! I could have made a whole slew of zombies with this sucker!
Gah! Why do I always find the cool stuff when it is too late?
Mario and Luigi
This picture really made me smile; often my son and I will play Mario Kart, bowling, or tennis on the Wii together. It’s a good time when just the two of us play and enjoy time together geeking out.
This picture reminds me of that quality time he and I sometimes share - and yeah yeah, I know! We should be outside playing, video games rot the brain, yadda-yadda-yadda… I like being inside, and I don’t mind being pasty-white. Besides, I burn easily, ok?
Dungeons and Dragons Commercial
Wow, check out this old television commercial for the original Dungeons & Dragons. This is by far my favorite find this week!
I never knew they had made a D&D commercial for television. The post accompanying the commercial claims to be written buy one of the actors from the clip - and if it is true, he says this ad ran during Saturday Night Live showings? Wow, I must say that I don’t remember the commercial from my youth - if I had seen it back then, I would have been totally blown away and begging my parents to buy it for me.
Sure, the commercial looks very dated now, but if you try and think back to the time, it actually is pretty cool, despite the geeky cast. Actually, even the cast is pretty decent, I won’t go slamming on them too much.
Homemade Batmobile Tumbler Go-Kart
Now, I just don’t know about this guy. He’s definitely got a cool looking Go-Kart build on the go, but man - it’s all made of metal. That sucker must weigh a freakin’ ton!
And should it ever go fast enough to lose control and crash? Wow… somebody’s gonna get hurt. I hope he builds in some padding to protect the driver, but no amount of padding will help anyone that gets hit.
Safety aside though, this guy’s got a really serious looking ride on the go, and he is nearing completion. And if you are totally digging it, he has plans to sell construction plans for it so that others can build one for themselves too.
He says that if you are interested in buying the plans to his Go-Kart that you should follow him on YouTube… I personally am not interested in buying his Tumbler plans, but I did subscribe to see the final product when he’s done some time next month - it should be pretty cool!

I love that D&D commercial. Not only for the product, but for the fact it has Alan Ruck and Jami Gertz in it.
Hehheheheh - I totally agree Jason!
I should have expanded upon who the cast actually was - I was surprised to see such familiar names there.
The commercial is totally full of win, I am glad someone else out there agrees with me.
Ha ha! Zombie Birthday Cake - I like the way you think worldofhiglet!
Hmmm… my birthday is in August, perhaps I need to make a request for Zombie cake.
It’s crazy how time flies huh? I’m not a mother myself, but I do see children growing up. I teach art in California (K-5) and have been doing so for a few years now. I’m not particularly old (28), but enough time has passed that the fifth graders I started out with when I first started are now in high school.
Agreed - time does fly crazy-fast.
We went camping this weekend, and he had so much fun, but I can’t believe how old he is. When we were at the beach, he lie down on a beach towel, took his shirt off and put his sun-hat over his face … he told me he “needed to tan” - LOL. He’s only 4!
That “needing to tan” bit literally had be LOLing. I never really think about people needing to tan (since I have one built in
), but the fact that your young son said it was hilarious. I suppose just watch out he doesn’t get sunburnt if you and your family are of the pastey white variety.
yeap - pastey white…. sooo pastey white.
I ever mention the computer room is in the barely lit unfinished side of our basement? No? S’true!
That only promotes the pastey whitedness!
