iPhone App Spotlight: MemoryInfo

by Aggro Me on June 3, 2009

I‘m always running apps galore on my iPhone.  I’m into one app, out of it, into another, on the phone, checking email and the cycle begins again.  But I was having some issues…memory issues.  I kept getting low memory warnings in certain games and lag in others when I didn’t have lag before.  Basically, it seemed like my iPhone’s memory was just fucked.  I’m pretty sure this is because I’m just constantly using so many different apps all the time.  But it was getting annoying and there was no way I wanted to bother with a full factory reset or whatever.

Now, I know powering totally off and then powering on again definitely helps.  And it’s probably good to do once in a while anyway.  But doing it all the time is a total pain in the ass.  It takes a while and I don’t want to be powering off and on all day.  And even when I did do it, it wasn’t that long before I started getting memory issues again.  It was starting to piss me off.

There is another way to reboot your iPhone that helped me and that not everyone might know about.  You hold down your Home button and the Sleep/Wake button at the same time for around ten seconds.  The power off slider will pop up, but just keep holding those buttons.  Eventually you’ll see the apple and you can let go of the buttons.  The apple will remain on screen for quite some time.  I just did it and timed it with a stopwatch (who knows why) and it was a minute and 47 seconds.  When done, it doesn’t power off but takes you back to the password screen.  Apple calls this a Reset as opposed to a Restart.  Again, this is probably good to do once in a while and it definitely helps.  But I also don’t want to do it all the time.
