Last week I mentioned that my house was up for sale - well, as I sit here and type we have accepted an offer on our house! Needless to say, we are pretty excited about the whole deal.
I was telling Aggro, selling a house is kind of like Min-Maxing all over again - the rules apply to selling a house too! You need to maximize the sell-ability of the house by minimizing the unattractive aspects of the home. No house is perfect, but what you can do is minimize the appearances of these unattractive aspects by properly staging a room.
Placing things in a location that draws the eye away from areas you find less desirable in order to highlight something great about the space is what it’s all about folks! A fresh coat of paint, strategically positioned furniture, removing all possible clutter to the point of being minimalistic, removing any personal pictures that might give the potential client a sense they are in someone else’s home, and even a fresh flowers in a vase in the dining room - it all helps maximize sell-ability!
Listen to me, I sound like an expert! I have to say that my years of playing RPGs paid off in ensuring our house was as attractive as possible to potential buyers… our house sold before it ever officially made it to the market! Our house was not even on the internet MLS listings… yet, it sold.
Amazing what a well staged home, applying a little Min-Maxing skillz to the place, and attention to small details will do for a place.
Can you tell I am psyched?
Anyways, the whole house-thang kept me pretty busy all week, but thankfully I had time to peruse the interwebs and pick up some pretty dang cool links! Enjoy!
