This week, I think most bloggers who are talking about sci-fi movies are talking about the new Star Trek film.  I’m definitely looking forward to seeing it.  It even got a fantastic review in our local magazine, Time Out New York, and they always seem to be extremely tough when it comes to reviews.  I’m not trying to be different by talking about a lesser known sci-fi flick that’s coming out…I just don’t have a lot to say about the Star Trek film that hasn’t already been said.  Not to mention I haven’t even seen it.  And it’s also weird for anyone to talk about director Neill Blomkamp without getting into the Halo film.  But I’m way more excited about this film than Halo.

I’m here to talk about District 9.  I haven’t been looking forward so much to a new sci-fi movie in…well, I can’t even remember.  These days, I try not to get my hopes up about any upcoming film.  But it’s hard for me not to be completely fired up about this one.  Before I say any more, you should just see the trailer.  But I should tell you that I think it’s even more important that you see the short film District 9 is based on, Alive in Joberg, which is embedded after the jump.
