iPhone Battery Backup

by Aggro Me on April 21, 2009

I definitely love my iPhone 3G and don’t regret buying it for a second.  I pretty much like everything about it.  But one exception is that I feel like the battery sucks.  Just for some background, I always have WiFi and Bluetooth off.  I even turned the music equalizer to “flat” because I read that helps. I do refuse to lower the brightness of the screen more than a small amount.  I know it’s a major battery drain but it just really annoys me to look at the screen with the brightness turned down.  I didn’t raise it either - it’s a little bit past halfway towards the low end of the scale on the brightness setting screen.  If you don’t mind a lower brightness, I suggest you do turn this down as it does seem to make a big difference.  Since email is a big reason I use the iPhone, I have push on and fetch set to one hour for email that doesn’t work with push.

Now, I charge my phone so it is at absolute full power in the morning.  And when it’s on standby, I think the battery life is totally great.  But of course, it’s not always on standby because I use it.  During the day, I play only a couple of songs, play with an app or two for a bit, and very rarely watch videos.  I sometimes use the internet browser but pretty infrequently. But I find on those days when I do a good amount of texting and phone calls, the battery still drains before the evening when I have a chance to charge it.  Oh, and when I have to use the GPS feature…forget it.  That thing just demolishes your battery life.  But it’s such a great feature that it comes in very handy when you need it.  And the thing about the GPS drain effect is that most of the time when you want to use it you are in an unfamiliar area.  And when you are in an unfamiliar area you often have to make use of the GPS multiple times and use other aspects of the phone as well.  So it dies on you when you need it most.
