The Art of ALF

by Aggro Me on April 19, 2009

I spend a lot of time browsing around DeviantART and checking out art blogs because there are so many talented people out there who produce such amazing and interesting art.  Of course, it’s always better to see artwork in person.  But the internet allows you to easily check out a vast array of art.  And it’s just really fun to see the imagination artists have and the way they translate that vision into art that others can enjoy.  It’s cool to see abstract or classical art.  But it’s also really fun when you find artwork that celebrates the kind of geeky stuff we talk about on AGR.  Today I wanted to share some hilarious and awesome art that I think you will enjoy.

When I first came across the art I want to talk about in this post, it immediately reminded me of the artwork of Brandon Bird.  Now, Bird’s artwork has been semi-famous on the interwebs for quite some time now.  But on the off chance that you haven’t seen it I thought I would mention it here before I get to the main subject of this post.  Bird introduces an array of figures from the world of pop culture into various styles of art.  They are not only fun to check out but well-executed.  My particular favorite is this one of a totally badass, cage fighting Abraham Lincoln.  But there’s a bunch of other ones I love as well like this freaky Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles piece, this Dukes of Hazard tribute in a cave painting style, this painting of Ross from Friends getting his exercise on,  and, of course, this Last Supper work which features a variety of recognizable figures, including RoboCop. That’s right…RoboCop.  But all of his stuff is great so I’m sure you’ll find your own favorites.  Some of it isn’t funny but just beautiful, like this one of Bajor that I think is terrific.  I ordered Bird’s Law and Order Coloring Book which never fails to crack me up.  It’s totally worth the ten bucks I paid and it’s great to leave on the coffee table so I can watch people’s expressions when they pick it up and flip through it.

But okay, let’s get to the main topic of this post after the jump…
