Thanks for Destroying My Childhood

by Aggro Me on April 15, 2009

We all have favorite children’s books we read when we were very young.  Perhaps there are books your parents read to you, perhaps books that helped you learn to read.  I know I treasure the memory of these books and I’m sure you do too.  Since Aggro-Mom is a retired kindergarten teacher there have always been children’s books around my parents’ apartment so I always have had the chance to refresh the good memories.  I bring this all up because of the recent onslaught of movies based on classic children’s books.  I’m not too fond of this whole idea…I feel like a bad flick will totally kill the memories I had of the original book.  And I pictured them a certain way in my own mind, which is sure to conflict with the director’s vision.  Can you really make a whole film out of such short books?

But okay, there are two categories of these types of movies.  Ones that are at least good, and ones that suck.  While part of me wishes none of these movies were made, part of me does get excited to see the good ones.  In this post I’m going to look at one movie that seems like it may be good and one movie that doesn’t.  Of course, I could be wrong in my assumptions but you can decide for yourself.
