Yep, it’s your good buddy, Aggro, checking out the crap-tastic but free New Year’s apps for the iPhone so you don’t have to. We all know the App Store is cluttered with a lot of garbage so I figured I would sample the free apps that have a New Year’s theme. There were a bunch more that looked absolutely awful for 99 cents (iChampagne I’m looking at you) but there was no way I was paying to torture myself.
Let’s start with the least sucky, New Year’s Blowout Horn and 2009 Countdown. It not only has a countdown (holy cow a countdown! woot!), but this app magically transforms your iPhone into one of those annoying paper blowhorn thingies. You know, the kind you get on New Year’s Eve when you pay $100 per person for a subpar dinner and a glass of flat champagne but it’s awesome because it comes with a party hat and a paper blowhorn? Yeah, that. Blow into the mic and the horn dramatically unfolds. Blow hard enough and it makes a, um, horn sound. For what it’s worth, this app works fine and the horn implementation is okay (though it could be a bit louder).
Super secret app pro-tip from Aggro: if you press the little “i” button, you not only get an email submission form, you get that New Year’s Song that’s always playing when the ball drops. Hold on, I have to look it up….okay Auld Lang Syne. So with this exclusive tip it’s like getting something free within a free app!
