Tumbling Down The Rabbit Hole

by Karnatos on November 14, 2008

Yay! This week I have a better pic! Here kitty kitty! This was a busy week for me. Well, busy in the sense that I somehow managed to actually get some things done around the house, and that I am still gainfully employed… despite all the time I spent online tripping across cool shit.

Before I get into it though, I want to throw out an invite for anyone to fire off an email to me if they come across something that’s been dipped in awesome sauce; I’ll be especially grateful if I get the email when I’m at work so I have something to break up the day in my cubicle.

OK, I’ve wasted enough time revving this week’s drop down the hole, let’s get to it…

Pulled straight from the front page of i am karnatos from this past week, I give you the following:

  • Lego Firewall
  • Hi-Res Terminator Salvation Concept Art
  • Essential Headgear For The Modern Astro-Traveller
  • ‘Food Chain Friends’ Beta Series
  • Clap Your Brains Off
  • Pixar’s BURN-E

Lego Firewall

Now this has to be the best damned firewall concept I have seen in one hell of a long time - come on, nobody can break through the Duplo Firewall! That thing is seriously bad ass.

Hi-Res Terminator Salvation Concept Art

Now now now… what do we have here? Do I see me some sweet concept art of the new terminator-badness to be seen (potentially at least) in the upcoming Terminator Salvation movie? Some of these bastards look pretty daunting - I don’t know how much I’d crap myself if I were swimming and came across a hydrobot. I’d likely be dead before I noticed it though, so I guess that’s good?

Well, as sweet as the pics are, I am betting people will be complaining about a few things, like:

The mototerminator looks like an attempt to cash in on the coolness of Batman’s bike from this past summer’s flick. Fuck that, this bike looks pretty damn awesome, and definitely scary. I can’t wait to see it in motion with it’s whole tilting-guns thangamajang.

The oldschool T-600 looks like the freakin zombie’d Strogg!

The harvester looks like the Armored Personnel Unit from The Matrix, kinda… I guess? Maybe I’m still aggravated that the APU’s looked like Ripley’s exosuit from Alien’s, I dunno though.

I cannot say that I am a huge Terminator fan, I’m not even watching the The Sarah Connor Chronicles on TV right now (although, with Shirley Manson there now… I should be!!).

Essential Headgear For The Modern Astro-Traveller

This is seriously cool looking, I just wish they had some pics of someone wearing it! Check it out, it’s a steam-punk styled helmet for a space-faring astro-traveller. I love the bell-dome top with the goggle-glasses and tophat inside the dome. They even have gauges acting as a HUD inside the helmet to inform of oxygen levels. The whole styling is fantastic! How can you not love this? Even the stand is cool!

‘Food Chain Friends’ Beta Series

Like stuffed animals? Naw, me either.

But wait a minute? What do we have here…? Some freaky stuffed animals eating each other? Now this is something I can get behind!

OK, to be honest, there were some really slick looking stuffed animals that came out a while back called UglyDolls. They were pretty cool, right? I’d been tempted to get one in the past.

Oh oh! And there were those Giant Virus stuffed animals too! Yeah yeah! I had one for a while, but it disappeared over the years. Shit, I’m kinda pissed about that all over again now.

Wow - I also remember that I had a sock monkey as a kid, I loved that thing. I have been eyeballing the one on Think Geek for a while now too.

Shit… maybe I do like stuffed animals. Who knew!

Clap Your Brains Off

CRANK UP THE SPEAKERS FOLKS!

It’s time to Clap Your Brains Off! This is one hell of a catchy tune, with an absolutely meth-geeky video. Look, if you check it out and get lost watching this sucker, I’ll forgive you if you don’t return for a short bit.

I can’t explain any better than they do on the actual site itself, but here’s a quote to give you the gist of what they did for this trip-tastic video:

This video uses a mathematical formula based upon an image Escher did (The Print Gallery), known in these days as the “Droste Effect”.

Now, if that description doesn’t get you wondering why the fuck I think it’s even remotely cool, just check it out and tell me you didn’t love it!

Pixar’s BURN-E

Ahhh, BURN-E - you da man! Here’s a short from Pixar that accompanies the new Wa.. shit, I have to update this article because the YouTube link’s down.

OK, that’s better! Found it on Daily Motion - Sweet!

As you see, it’s likely to be pulled again and again - I can understand too. This is Pixar’s property, and it has been leaked. If you don’t get to check it out before this link is pulled, then you can Google-Fu around and look for it yourself, or just buy the movie when it is released. The BURN-E short is great, I got a couple good laughs from it. Totally worth hunting down, as expected - it’s Pixar after all!
