iPhone App Spotlight: Box.net

by Aggro Me on November 6, 2008

I had a couple of .pdf’s related to work that I needed to read while I was on vacation, but I didn’t feel like wasting paper to print them all and then carrying the paper around. So I spent a few minutes trying to find a solution to transfer and read .pdf’s on my iPhone. I came up with Box.net. There may be better solutions, but this one is free and it worked okay for me.

You first have to sign up for a free account at Box.net. Now, they do offer paid accounts as well, but the 1GB free plan was plenty for me. There is also a 25 meg limitation on individual file size for the free account. Signing up for the account was pretty easy and uploading files from my PC was very smooth. Box.net allows you to organize your files into folders, which was very handy. The interface is excellent and the whole process was quite rapid.

I then downloaded the Box.net iPhone app, which was also free. I gave it my account info and I was hooked in to my files right away. Now I can access any of the .pdf’s I uploaded to Box.net from my iPhone, though there are some loading times.
