Tumbling Down the Rabbit Hole...On this second edition of Tumbling Down The Rabbit Hole I will once again be checking out the links I’ve posted to i am karnatos.

This past week I slapped the following topics on my tumblog:

  • So That’s Where The Idea Came From…
  • Steampunk Star Wars - Princess Leia (second pass)
  • Guaita Fortress in San Marino
  • Classic USB Joystick Controller
  • Oh, The Huge Manatee!
  • South Celestial Pole
  • Alyson Hannigan (Willow) Is Pregnant
  • Wil Wheaton on Criminal Minds (Tonight)
  • City Escape by Rozefire
  • DOTS: Winter Gloves for Touchscreen Users
  • Titanium and Brass Photochromatic, Variable-Aperture Goggles
  • Laundry Day

So That’s Where The Idea Came From…

This picture caught my eye because my old apartment in Halifax had a sink and tap just like this. At the time TNG was still showing new episodes, and one night I laughed when I noticed this exact same freakin’ thing! Our sink was more round though, so it looked more TOS than TNG.

Steampunk Star Wars - Princess Leia (second pass)

I mentioned this one last week, but the artist (Björn Hurri) has added a layer of ink to it this week. I really loved the original drawing, but it’s smokin’ with some paint added to it. I cannot wait to see this one completed.

Guaita Fortress in San Marino

Just “Wow!” - this is one cool picture of an actual place on this planet of ours. Too fucking cool. Check out the Wikipedia entry for more information on the fortress, and check out this link for a picture of it in the daytime without the fog.

Classic USB Joystick Controller

If you ever played on an Atari 2600 then you have definitely wished at some point that you could play some of the old-school MAME games with one in hand. Now you can!

Oh, The Huge Manatee!

This is one hilarious picture! I snarfed my morning coffee at work when I came across this one! I’ve been quoting it all week, and there’s talk of us getting some T-Shirts done up with it.

South Celestial Pole

I’m not sure if anyone here is into astronomy, but this is pretty light stuff. It’s a simple animation of the night sky, done with a bunch of individual image stills strung together to make a movie.

They show the animated images in two passes; the first shows the night sky spinning during the night, they got the camera dead center too… making the effect absolutely mesmerizing. The second time they show the images they stack them on top of each other to give the classic star-trails type photo, only in movie format. It’s really slick and worth a watch.

Alyson Hannigan (Willow) Is Pregnant

Willow! My Girl! She’s been married a while now, but news has it she’s pregnant! I was thrilled to come across this news; it was a crappy day. I caught a cold and had the sniffles. I’d spent the previous night yelling at the TV while watching Willow mess up bad in Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Season 6 (I’m watching Buffy for the first time, blazing through the box sets like mad). I was upset with Willow! To see that Alyson was pregnant this past Wednesday it made my day! This is going to be one beautiful baby!

Congrats to both of you - parenthood is the best!

Wil Wheaton on Criminal Minds (Tonight)

Gah! Just… gah! I wanted to watch this before I posted this so that I could talk about how he did… but I ended up watching more Buffy instead. (I’m so damned addicted, I’m doomed!!) Then I find out tonight that my wife watched it without me! She said he was brilliant, but she had no idea who he is. I read his blog all the time (you should too!), he’s come a long way since his Star Trek TNG days.

City Escape by Rozefire

I love this art piece.

The artist portrays a great sense of height. The lack of fear in the children as they go about their playful activities way up high is brilliant.

DOTS: Winter Gloves for Touchscreen Users

I was listening to my favorite CBC show, Spark (as an aside, their podcast is fantastic, and Nora Young is an awesome host) and they were posing a question that I had never ever thought of. As Canadians, we have a unique issue regarding touch screens, such as the one in the iPhone - it gets damned cold here in the winter, and we wear gloves and mittens to keep our hands from freezing. Well, they don’t work with gloves or mittens! What do we do!?

This is going to be the first winter for the iPhone here in Canada. We just got it in July, and I bet there’s going to be some Canadians doing a whole WTF?! when they try to use their iPhones. Thankfully there’s a product out there that solves this problem, and the price is not insane either.

Titanium and Brass Photochromatic, Variable-Aperture Goggles

More steam punk this week - these goggles are sick. I need to get a pair of these to wear when I drive down the highway after work. I’d have the window down, singing along to my Dr. Horrible Sing-Along Blog soundtrack blaring out the window. I can just imagine everyone looking at me when traffic has come to a crawl thinking to themselves … “What The Fuck?!”, and some dude shouting “Pearl! Pearl!? Did you see that lunatic?!”

Laundry Day

Laundry day

      See you there

Under Things

      Tumbling

Yeah - even knights have to do laundry!

And to quote Aggro: “You can’t be a knight in shining armor if your armor is not shiny!”

So true. So true.
