Tumbling Down The Rabbit Hole

by Karnatos on October 31, 2008

VW Rabbit... get it? Ooof! Sorry! There’s not a whole lot of interesting stuff that I came across this week folks - and that would have to do with a mad bout of illness and in general just not feeling well enough to be online.

Here’s what did come across as interesting in my medicated state this week; pulled straight from the front page of i am karnatos, I give you the following:

  • Louie Armstrong sings “Super Mario World”
  • Pop-Up Pirate USB Hub
  • Binary Su Doku

Buffy Between the Lines

by Karnatos on October 30, 2008

Hungry for more Buffy?I just finished listening to the first Buffy Between The Lines episode, and I have to admit that I am impressed overall. What’s Buffy Between The Lines you ask? Well, I’ve mentioned the troupe before in a Dr. Horrible context, but the BBtL crew are a creative and talented bunch that have grouped together to fill in the blanks that happen between seasons in the Buffy universe.

Those of you that are familiar with the series know that each season has a time-gap between them spanning the summer months. BBtL’s first episode starts where season 5 left off. They start the show with a recap of the last episode of season (no worries, I’ll stay away from spoilers folks). I found this recap great, even though I myself am only in season 6 and the whole thing is fresh in my mind. Anyone that’s seen Buffy will be able to quickly situate themselves with what was going on in the series before this episode begins.

iPhone App Spotlight: PhatLewt

by Aggro Me on October 29, 2008

I download plenty of free iPhone games but it’s pretty rare that I’ll actually pay for one. I think Galcon is my only actual purchase thus far.  So, when I do buy a game, you would think I would make really certain first that it is a quality title.  Um, so how did I end up purchasing PhatLewt?

PhatLewt had a few marks against it right away.  First of all, the official website for the game is a static, one-page affair which includes the phrase, “This is the subtitle for your site.”  That didn’t exactly inspire confidence.  More than half of the 23 reviews for the game in the App Store were 3-stars or lower, including six 1-star reviews.  I was unable to locate a single review or discussion of the game anywhere else on the entire interwebs.

In reading the App Store reviews, it seemed like the price of the game had dropped over time from $4.99 to a paltry 99 cents, with a few stops along the way.  Now, sure, it’s good that the game is cheaper.  But it sure didn’t seem like this was a good sign in terms of quality.

Still, I couldn’t resist buying the game.  I’ve been dying for a simple, fun roguelike on the iPhone and I thought perhaps this was it.  It reminded me for some reason of the free game Monster’s Den, which I think would be an absolutely awesome iPhone conversion.  Or maybe it was the title.  Who doesn’t love that phat lewt?

Shopping for Pets

by Aggro Me on October 28, 2008

Well, it’s kind of sad that I live in NYC and I had to hear about this from Karn’s post.  But the important thing is I did make it downtown to visit Banksy’s Village Pet Store and Charcoal Grill.  I’ve long been a fan of Banksy’s art.  It is always creative and often hilarious.  Let me tell you, his pet store set-up did not disappoint.  It was one of the coolest art installations I’ve ever seen.

I’m going to post some pictures below but you have to realize that all of the animals pictured are also animatronic, which makes it much cooler in person.  I can’t believe how well put together these displays are. The whole animatronic aspect also reminded me of Disney World, which made things even more bizarre.  If you have the opportunity, please visit in person.  I only took pictures of about one third of the displays so there’s plenty more going on.  If you can visit, I advise you to peer in every crevice and take your time to find everything.  The level of detail is amazing and there are plenty of hidden surprises.

Soil Yourself Scary

by Anski on October 27, 2008

Recently a certain game named Dead Space was released. In honor of not only the release of that game, but the best month of the year (October, of course!), I am not only going to tell you about my new love for Dead Space, but am also going to bring you a list of my most memorable scary games… and then some.

We’ll start off by talking about Dead Space for a bit here. I think at this moment, Dead Space is not only one of my favorite survival horror games, but one of my favorite games in general.

by Karnatos on October 24, 2008

The ScrapboxI have been invited to attend a fundraising event this weekend at The Scrapbox, an awesome scrapbooking store here in Ottawa. I will definitely be accompanying my wife and son to this event.

They have a Halloween theme for the fund raiser, members of the Capital City Squad, the local detachment of the 501st Legion, will be present for the event. The event is called Scrapping with Cancer, and this is the first annual event at The Scrapbox.
