I think the title gives this one away, but I have to admit that I am super excited (live Dr. H!), disappointed (I can’t make it), and thrilled (live Dr. H!) all at once by the news. Yes, folks, Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog is going to be performed live at DragonCon!
Here’s the information directly from the Buffy Between the Lines website:
From the studio that brought you the fan audio drama: Buffy Between the Lines, comes the first officially sanctioned fan-production of Dr. Horrible’s Sing Along Blog!
Sunday night, 11:30pm
August 31st, 2008 at DragonCon!
Podcasting Track (Downtown Atlanta Hilton on the 2nd Floor Rockdale room)Dress up! Win Cool Prizes!
Watch Dr. Horrible and Sing Along with a full costumed cast!
ONLY OPEN TO THE FIRST 100 PEOPLE!
(This is the one. Tell your friends.)
I think that says it all folks. If you are lucky enough to be going to DragonCon, or live in the area, and you manage to get in to see it, I am jealous! I am really happy to see that it is (apparently) a sanctioned production too.
I love it when a show’s fans are enabled and encouraged by its creators to express their passion for the show. All too often they try to stop their fans from doing things like this all costs. A big thumbs-up goes out to the Dr. Horrible team for allowing it to happen and giving it their official approval. I also want to wish all the best to the people at Between the Lines Studios for taking on this first fan-production of Dr. Horrible at a live venue!
Before signing off on this post though, I just have to say “Wow!” when it comes to what I found at Buffy Between the Lines - a whole series of audio podcasts with voice acted fan-created episodes of Buffy? Get out! I’d love to talk more about this too, but I’ll leave that for another time… I’ll give it a listen and let you know what I think.

Thanks so much for posting about our Dr. Horrible performance! We’re really excited. And I hope you enjoy Season One of Buffy Between the Lines - we’re also doing a Live performance of our audio drama at DragonCon AND Season 2 of BBtL launches next week!!
This will be a great performance and I wish I could be there. Hopefully we’ll be hearing lots about it before, during and after the event! And with BBtL Season 2 launching next week this really is great news - I can’t believe the time has passed already and I’m really looking forward to Season 2, Ep 1.
Good morning to both of you!
I am more than pleased to post about your live Dr. H. performance - I only wish I could be there to see it. I have to admit that one of my first thoughts after watching Act I was who would be first to attempt a live performance, and I would love to know how it will be pulled off.
Is there any chance it will be recorded and uploaded somewhere online? That would be awesome (but might have legal implecations I supposed).
I filled my MP3 player with all episodes last night - listening to S1Ep1 tonight on the car ride home, I am looking forward to it. You guys certainly get good feedback by your listeners.
worldofhiglet - welcome to Always Go Right. Your response here bolsters my excitement for BBtL S1… and with the promise of a second season coming down the pipe, what can I say other than Ooooooooh Yeaaaaah!
This might just be Whedon overload, I’ve started watching the TV series (almost done Season 1, but I have all seasons sitting on my shelf), Dr. Horrible, BBtL S1 and soon S2, Dollhouse, and I am sure there’s more.
Ack! Am I becomming a fanboy?! hehehehhehehh
Whedon overload? No such thing…! I envy you having all the seasons of Buffy sitting there, all unwatched. You have a great journey ahead of you! And when you’re done with them you have to get Firefly which stars Nathan Fillion. It’s only 1 season, but it is fantastic. Oh, and the movie Serenity. And the fan movie Done the Impossible. And….well, that should keep you busy for a while, yet!
Ahh…. a browncoat I am!
Firefly is how I learned of Whedon in the first place - but I never ventured out of that franchise when it came to Joss’ work. I’m all over that, I even own a hand-knit Cobb hat (being in Canada, it comes in handy 2/3 of the year)!
I happened upon the Whedon path again this past June when a colleague bought me Season 1 as a gift because she could absolutely not believe that I had not ever watched so much as an episode of Buffy… last week she learned I’d almost finished the DVD set, so she brought in the remainder seasons for me to watch.
I’m finding myself really enjoying it so far, and I am told that Season 1 is weak in comparisson to upcoming ones, so I think I’m in trouble… heheheheheh.
We also have Cabin in the Woods (Drew Goddard.. Joss… great team).
We’ll be spoiled.
How about SugarShock?
I’m so there! Been trying to find this on the program–the singalong was one of my main goals at D*C! How early should I arrive to get a seat?
Hi Minx,
You can Tweet @Tabz for more info - she will be able to fill you in more. The schedule says it starts at 7.00 but there are limited places.
According to the Whedon Universe website (http://www.whedonuniverse.com/notice.html) you will have to queue again for the Buffy Horror Picture show:
There has been some confusion relating to the line structure for Dr. Horrible and the Buffy Horror Picture show. We would like to make sure everyone is informed on the proceedure before they get to the convention.
The room WILL be cleared after the Dr. Horrible Performance. Those who have been in to see this show will have to exit and get in line to see Buffy Horror.
The line for Buffy Horror will not be formed until
There are THREE shows of Buffy Horror on the same night, one after the other. If you miss one, don’t worry, another one is coming.
Please understand that we did not make these decisions. This process has been set in place by Dragon*Con security, as was the time slot for Dr. Horrible. We’re terribly sorry for the inconvenience this causes for many of you and we hope you’ll bear with us as we run these events.
Thought this was a funny comic about DCon.
Ooof - I really wish I could have been there for the showings for both of these shows. While I was really enjoying my relaxation time at the cottage, I could not help but think about what was likely going on at D*Con.
I hope everything went off without a hitch!
