People seem to have wildly divergent views on anime.  Some are just unfamiliar with it or think all anime is like Pokemon or Dragon Ball.  There are those who absolutely love it and see anime as a superior form of entertainment.  On the other hand, there are plenty of people who think all anime is awful, silly and worthless.

Personally, I think anime is like every other form of media.  A lot of it is absolute garbage.  Plenty of it is just sub par or passable at best.  Some of it can be enjoyable depending on your personal tastes.  And there are those few wonderful works that are just absolutely fantastic.  I could say the same about novels or movies…I don’t think anime is a special case.  Just like every other form of entertainment, some is bad and some is good.

I really enjoy watching it and finding those gems.  Of course, I can also have a sense of humor about it.  I love this humor article by Doc Evil on Something Awful relating the tale of an “internet artist” whose grandmother tragically threw out all of his anime.  Check the artwork…”Grandma you have committed crimes against anime.”  I love that.  But I also love watching what I see as the better anime series and I think if more people kept an open mind, they would as well.
