True Dungeon

by Aggro Me on August 14, 2008

Every year I see an article or blog posting about True Dungeon, and I think, “Wow, that would be really cool to see in person!”  But at that point it’s usually way too late to get tickets, make travel plans, etc.  And then I forget about it completely until the cycle repeats itself the following year.  So I hope that if I post about it, maybe someone will remind me in advance next year.

The article that piqued my interest this year was over at Wired, and they have a good overview of the proceedings.  True Dungeon is a real life game of D&D.  As you progress through the actual rooms of the dungeon, your party will come across puzzles, monsters and traps.  Volunteers act as characters in the dungeon and as DM’s.   Melee combat is represented by playing what sounds like shuffleboard.  Rogues can physically disarm traps by playing an “Operation” style game.  You can gain XP by playing as well as treasure tokens which include equipment, scrolls and weapons.  The whole thing just sounds like a blast.

You can check out the official site and the Wikipedia page for lots more info. The game takes place each year at Gen Con: Indy.
