Let me start off by saying that I don’t really consider myself a true Joss Whedon fanboy, although I am quickly becoming a fan of his work. The only real work I’ve come to know and love is his Firefly/Serenity franchise - that had me absolutely hooked, and it’s lead me to start looking into other portions of his work.
Where do I stand on the whole Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog? To be honest, I am not a fan of musicals. I’ve gone to see a few performances in my life, and they were meh at best.
I did buy into the hype for Dr. Horrible though. Its existence was announced at the same time I received the Buffy Season 1 DVDs as a gift. I was primed for more Whedon, I was hungry to see how Joss could pull off a musical.
I loved it. I thought the acting was great, the singing was fantastic, the songs were catchy, the story was engrossing, the funnies kept coming, there was a love interest, some villainy… what’s not to love!
It’s confirmed… there is water on Mars. For sure. For real. The Mars rover Phoenix had discovered what was very likely to be ice on June 15th, four days later the supposed ice had evaporated. NASA was close to proving it then, but not 100%.
I‘ve played plenty of board games that owe a lot to D&D (Dark Tower, Descent and BattleLore amongst others) and I’ll likely discuss those in detail at some point. But for the purposes of our little D&D celebration here, I was trying to remember if I ever played any official D&D branded board games (not counting roleplaying or miniatures games).
I did some searching around on one of my favorite websites, BoardGameGeek, to try to jog my memory. Well, I didn’t find any official games I’ve played but I did discover a couple of ”interesting” D&D branded games.
It’s almost impossible for me to think about D&D any more without picturing scenes from the unintentionally hilarious Jack Chick tract “Dark Dungeons.” If you haven’t seen it yet, take a gander.
I never get tired of this thing. Sometimes I think Jack Chick is playing us all and is truly the greatest troll in internet history. The number of people who have read and parodied this thing is just astronomical.
This ad has been playing quite a bit on the Discovery channel (which my TV seems to be stuck on… plus it’s Shark Week!), and in the wake of Dr. Horrible, I figure others may get a good kick out of it if they haven’t seen it already. Of course, it is a lot more funny if you remember Neil Patrick Harris as Doogie Howser…
