For Sale: T.I.E. Fighter Model From Episode IV

by Karnatos on July 29, 2008

How much cash do you have hoarded away in your piggy bank?

I ask because I found this in my inbox today: there’s an eBay auction for one of the T.I.E. Fighter models from A New Hope that starts this Friday, August 1st! This is not just any T.I.E. Fighter, here’s a quote from the auction’s page:

“During the nail-biting assault on the Death Star in Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope, this is the actual filming miniature of the T.I.E. Fighter that bumps into Darth Vader’s fighter knocking him out of the trench, allowing Luke to destroy the Death Star.”

You have got to be kidding me! My hunch was right, this sucker is one of only four T.I.E. Fighter models that were made for the first Star Wars movie! I guess it’s no surprise that bids will begin at $170,000 USD.

It should also be no surprise that I’ll not be able to raise the funds to place a bid either… if only I’d got the email notification last week.

Geek PS

by Aggro Me on July 29, 2008

I love Portal probably as much as anyone in the world but, wow, people are really running the cake jokes into the ground.  They got the opportunity to do so today when several websites covered a sweet downloadable GLaDOS voice for the Garmin Nuvi

The person behind this great creation is Ryan VanMiddlesworth and you can visit his GLaGPS page, where the familiar voice is available for download.  Just be aware that this is not true text-to-speech.  You will get directions but GLaGPS will not voice street names.

There is apparently quite the market in geeky voices for the GPS crowd.  For example, I found this page, which offers free Vader and Yoda voices for the TomTom (I can’t vouch for the safety or efficacy of the downloads).  A company called Navtones is selling TomTom voices, such as, um…Mr.T and Count Whackula.   Okay.

Titanion

by Karnatos on July 29, 2008

It’s been a good while since I played a shmup that gets my blood pumping and I have to tell everyone to download it and play it right now.

Titanion is a classic vector graphics shooter quite similar in presentation to Galaga. With 3 modes of play, all with a variance on rules and abilities, this free downloadable game is a hell of a lot of fun and has a shitload to offer.

The twist with this game? This time you are the one with the capture beam!

Review: Confessions of a Part-Time Sorceress

by Aggro Me on July 29, 2008

Part of our salute to Gary Gygax:

Whether you’re a guy who is considering getting the woman in your life into D&D or a woman who happens to be unfamiliar with the game, you may wish to consider Confessions of a Part-Time Sorceress: A Girl’s Guide to the D&D Game by Shelly Mazzanoble.  I picked it up off of a table at a street fair in New York and ended up reading it, so I thought I’d fill you in.

The book is intended to be a light-hearted introduction to D&D for women and an exploration of the truth behind some of the myths and stereotypes surrounding the game.  There are plenty of jokes, illustrations, and even recipes.  It’s an easy, fun read and I do admire what the author was trying to do, but I had two major problems:

So If They Never Go Left, That Means…

by Aggro Me on July 29, 2008

Well, even though Always Go Right just launched this past Sunday, it appears that major multi-national corporations are already changing their business structure to follow our philosophy.

Just check out this video on UPS driving practices! (thanks AggroMom)

Well, okay, maybe it saves gas too.  I thought this was an elaborate put-on at first but it’s apparently quite real.

What can we say except…Always Go Right!

Hulu Hosting Dr. Horrible

by Karnatos on July 29, 2008

Flipping through my Twitter logs this morning, I noticed that Dr. Horrible Twittered that ‘Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Aling Blog’ is back on the internet for free viewing over at Hulu.

If you did not catch the 3 acts when they were online for free a week ago, here’s your chance to see them. As an added bonus, they have included a full 42 minute version so that you can watch the whole thing uninterrupted. How Horrible!
