Our names are a key piece to our identities, a label of sorts that we carry around with us until the end, and we are remembered by when we’re gone.

It’s just a name, and yet our name is so much more.

My name is Karnatos. No no, that’s not the name my parents chose for me, it’s a name I made up. Would you believe that this alias of mine is 24 years old this summer? Actually, I am having a hard time with this sudden realization. As I sit here at the keyboard typing this up, it baffles me to think that Karnatos is 24.

Where does the name come from? Well, I created the name myself, at the age of 12. I didn’t know it then, but this name would take me on a life-long journey. This is the story of it’s origin…

Aronofsky & RoboCop - Really?

Amidst the barrage of movie news surrounding Comic-Con, one piece of information really struck me as bizarre.  Darren Aronofsky has signed on to direct a new RoboCop film.  It’s not a rumor, this actually happened.

I liked the original Robocop, as I’m sure many others did.  It was a lot of fun and I can remember many of the violent scenes and classic one-liners clearly even today.  But it was definitely on the campy side.  Sure, I know there was satirical social commentary that may even seem prescient today (warnings of a privatized military, depictions of consumer culture gone wild).  But can anyone really say the title, “RoboCop” and keep a straight face?

One of my friends once asked, “Can RoboCop cry?”  and another responded, “Can RoboCop eat apple pie?”  For some reason, this was funny to us for about a decade.
