Star Chicken

by Aggro Me on July 23, 2008

I may well be the last person on Earth to figure this out, but you can apparently watch Robot Chicken’s Star Wars special from the comfort of your web browser over at Adult Swim.  As with most Robot Chicken episodes, there are some misses, but the hits are hilarious.  There are about 22 minutes of the Star Wars parodies available for your viewing pleasure, not to mention tons of commentary from Seth Green and Matt Senreich.  So long productivity!

Writing this post reminded me that Shin Chan, another show in the Adult Swim lineup, also did a special Star Wars parody.  I would usually prefer Shin Chan to Robot Chicken any day of the week, but I thought the Star Wars episode was actually one of their worst. So in a battle of the Adult Swim Star Wars parodies, I would have to go with Robot Chicken.

Can anyone think of another show that has done a dedicated Star Wars parody episode? There have got to be some obvious ones I’m missing.

Flag at Half-Mast for Flagship Studios

by Karnatos on July 23, 2008

Flag at Half-Mast for Flagship StudiosQuite a soap opera of activity is brewing this month over the sudden demise of Flagship Studios. Things have begun to completely spiral out of control leaving gamers wondering where all the pieces will fall if things ever settle down. These guys had one title on the shelves and another in the Beta pipeline… but who knows what is going to happen to all that now.

During its development, Hellgate: London had gamers drooling over the possibilities that this team of superstars would deliver. Hellgate:London is a Diablo-esque game that took place in an alternate existence with a modern day setting. In this alternate world, magic and technology mix to create a new tableau for the game genre. Centered in London, England, gates to Hell have opened in the city’s underground, and there is an outright war going on.

They had an MMO game named Mythos that was in closed Beta as well. This one was also in the same vein as Diablo, even more so than with Hellgate: London. It was shaping up to be a stellar product, and it was going to be free to download as well as free to play.

Flagship Studios was built by the gang from Blizzard North. They had some of the best talent and had worked on some of the world’s best selling gaming franchises; products like the Diablo series, the Warcraft series, and the Starcraft series are all on their resumes. This new company named Flagship Studios had the potential to make themselves a new gaming studio powerhouse… how could they possibly go wrong?
